Power & Energy

Power and Energy continues to be one of the highest profile industries across Australia supporting significant parts of Australia’s primary industries as well as its domestic requirements. The industry covers everything from fuel production (coalmines, gas wells, etc) through to electricity generation, fuel processing, transmission, transportation, wholesale market operation, and retail sales. The industry is also characterised by the need to address community (and shortly market) expectations such as reduced greenhouse emissions, reduced water consumption, and increased use of renewable energy sources.

Evans & Peck has provided input and advice to a significant number of power and energy projects across Australia.

Key projects:

  • Negotiation of major coal and gas supply arrangements for electricity generation;
  • Development of new power generation projects such as Delta
  • Electricity’s Colongra Gas Turbines;
  • Support for due diligence activities with the acquisition and/or sale of a generation assets;
  • Risk analysis and regulatory advice in support of electricity transmission price reviews across Queensland New South Wales and Tasmania;
  • Analysis of the effectiveness of maintenance and operations regimes applied by several power distribution companies across the national electricity market;
  • Provision of advice in relation to application of renewable technologies across Australia including wind generation, geothermal generation and solar thermal generation;
  • Technical Support for the Somerville Report – a detailed report for the Queensland Government on electricity distribution and service delivery for the 21st century; and
  • Townsville Gas-fired Power Station Project.
